Installation

The treatment is performed by the installation on the cold water supply inlet of a unit with a capacity equal to the maximum water flow at any time. An after-treatment unit is installed on the pressure side of the circulation pump with a treatment capacity equal to the pump flow.
This after-treatment is necessary to compensate for energy losses caused by galvanic potentials in the pipelines and the influence of the magnetic AC current stray capacity in the circulation pump.
There is no demand to a minimum flow or flow direction. The installation may be horizontal or vertical.

The speed of flow and pressure loss, pulling in different directions!

To "lift and carry" a calcium molecule, the water requires a minimum flow speed of 0.5 meters per second (preferred value 1 to 1.4 meters per second). However, this required speed contravenes the requirement for a minimum pressure loss across the plate heat exchanger! The construction leaves no alternatives to this physical fact and dilemma.

Getting lime scale and impurities removed.

As the required flow speed applies to all water installations, the problem must be solved by other technical means, e.g. specific system operation demands, in order to achieve optimal treatment
results. These are:

  1. Dimensioning the circulation pump capacity for a minimum of 0.5 meters per second speed in the plate heat exchanger. For most of the applications it is possible to meet this flow requirement.
  2. Draining of impurities and dissolved lime scale deposits as described below.
  3. Avoiding system obstructions by adopting correct operation procedures and regular service controls.
Reasons for deposits in plate heat exchangers.

  • The plate heat exchanger inlet dimension is big compared to the inlet between the plates, which leaves a volume area for sedimentation of calcium and other impurities.
  • The impurities heavier than calcium require even greater flow to be transported out of the heat exchanger, which by the overall system construction is often not technically possible to realize.
  • Larger substances like pebbles in the supply water and free rust after dissolving of limestone in the pipelines, which can not pass between the plates and are sedimented in the inlet.
  • Impurities of various sizes, which can fasten somewhere between the plates, causing turbulent flow and dead zones, subject to deposits (lime scale).  These cannot be removed by draining and are often self-expanding.
The prevention of deposits by physical water treatment - operation and service control.

Our physical water treatment will dissolve the lime scale deposits and free other imbedded impurities, but cannot dissolve them all (metals like iron and copper). It is important that these substances are removed from the system to avoid the above mentioned negative influences and corrosion.
